The Tour de France 2025: stage-by-stage
So, follow along through 21 stages, 11 regions and about 403,000 pedal strokes as the Tour de France 2025 commences.
The Tour de France 2025 dates – and where will it be?
The 112th Tour de France route begins in Lille Métropole, with the Grand Départ on the 5th of July. From Lille, 176 riders will cycle across France in 21 stages, going through iconic locations like Châtauroux and Montpellier. The tour culminates in Paris, where there will be a sprint towards the iconic Champs-Élysées on the 27th of July.
Throughout three weeks of hard-core cycling, the peloton will encounter seven flat stages, six hilly, six mountain stages and two time trials. The mountain stages will see riders face the highest points in France, from the Pyrenees range to the Alps, where a maximum elevation of 2,304m will be reached through Col de la Loze. Throughout the Tour de France 2025, riders will experience a total vertical gain of 51,550m.
Time trials will be held in urban areas and are set to provide some incredible viewing for spectators standing roadside! Plus, this is the first year since 2020 that the entire Tour de France 2025 route will be in France.
Who will be competing in the Tour de France?
There will be 176 riders competing in this year’s Tour de France, hailing from 22 different teams. The favourite is none other than last year’s winner: Tadej Pogačar. Pogačar races for UAE Team Emirates-XRG and was last year’s top seed to win. Prior to his maiden Tour de France victory, Pogačar had won the coveted white jersey most years since his entry into the cycling scene in 2020.
Jonas Vingegaard and Matteo Jorgenson of Visma-Lease A Bike and Primož Roglič of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe are the top contenders to take Pogačar’s crown, and it’s all to ride for – especially in those tough mountain stages!
Riders will face an average of 100 miles in each stage, all fighting to be the one wearing the yellow jersey on that all-important final day.
