The World Snooker Championship 2025, with Greene King Pubs

Players will compete in the 2025 Cazoo World Snooker Championship with one ultimate goal: to lift the World Snooker Championship trophy. The most famous and coveted piece of snooker silverware in the world.

One-third of the snooker ‘triple crown’, the World Snooker Championship is the longest-running event in the snooker calendar, having been held since 1927 in various formats. The event is a knockout format and has been played in this way since 1969.

When is the 2025 World Snooker Championship?

From April 19th until May 5th you can watch as the top players take on the World Snooker Championship’s 2025 schedule, where it’ll be televised live by the BBC from the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The Crucible is well known for being a tense, unforgiving environment and has offered the perfect backdrop for such an esteemed event since 1977.

The final will be held on May Day Bank Holiday, where the winner of the best of a 35-frame game will be awarded a hefty £500,000 prize and the highest number of ranking points available at any snooker tournament in the world. It’s the perfect setting for some bank holiday drinks and a game of pool if you ask us!

Who is competing in the 2025 World Snooker Championship?

The top 16 snooker players from the world rankings list will automatically be seeded into the World Snooker Championship 2025. The final 16 places will be awarded to players based on their results in the qualifying competition, which is made up of 16 professional players outside of those already seeded and 16 amateur players looking to gain entry to the big leagues.

Kyren Wilson is the defending champion this year, following his win in the 2024 tournament and his first-ever title. Judd Trump, current world number one, will also be attending and world-famous players like Neil Robertson and Mark Selby have joined the draw.

Ronnie O’Sullivan has also hinted that he may be involved in the 2025 competition, which would be a record-extending 33rd consecutive appearance. The ‘Crucible King’ is the tournament’s joint most successful entrant in the modern era with seven wins, alongside the youngest-ever World Snooker Champion, Stephen Hendry.

The full list of entrants is not yet confirmed, but with a total prize fund of £2,395,000, every potential player will be aspiring for a place in the competition. Players scoring a high break will be in receipt of a massive £15,000 bonus – an impressive purse for an even more impressive feat.
