Euro 2024 guide: key dates and England's route to the final

The Euros. Some of the best live football going is back!

After Italy dashed England’s hopes of a first major trophy since 1966 with a penalty shootout win in the final three years ago, and we crashed out of the World Cup against France in the quarter-finals, hopes are high that this could be our year. And with the likes of Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka and now Kobbie Mainoo in the squad, this could be our best chance yet.

At Greene King pubs, we’ll be glued to our screens watching the boys in Germany this summer and we hope you’ll join us. But before the action kicks off in Deutschland, let’s run through the important things to know.

Euro 2024 schedule

So, when are the Euros this summer? The tournament kicks off on 14th June 2024 with the hosts taking on the Tartan Army, Scotland, at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena. It culminates with the final a month later on the 14th July at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, with kick off at 8pm UK time.
These are some key dates to put in your diary:

  • Group stage: 14th to 26th June
  • Round of 16: 29th June to 2nd July
  • Quarter-finals: 5th to 6th July
  • Semi-finals: 9th and 10th July
  • Final: 14th July

England's route to Euro 2024 glory

So, which group are England in and when is their first match? And can they finally bring football home?

England have been drawn in Group C alongside Slovenia, Denmark and Serbia. We’re not calling it a Group of Death, but there are some tough games in there. Most notably against Denmark, who England narrowly beat at Wembley in the semi-final of Euro 2020. The Danes still feel like they were robbed, so they’ll be out for revenge. And they are led by Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund, who scored seven goals in Euro 2024 qualifying – just one less than Harry Kane.

England’s group stage fixtures look this like:

  • Serbia vs. England: Sunday 16th June – 8pm
  • Denmark vs. England: Thursday 10th June – 5pm
  • England vs. Slovenia: Tuesday 25th June – 8pm

England have form against Slovenia in the last match of a tournament group, squeezing past them in their final group game of the 2010 World Cup. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that this year.

But who will England play if they make it out of the group?

If England win their group, they’ll play the likes of Austria, Romania or Turkey in the round of 16. A rematch of the final from last time out against Italy could beckon in the quarter-finals, followed by our old foes France once again in the semis. If England banish the demons of the last World Cup and Kyle Walker keeps Kylian Mbappe in his pocket – a tall order we know – that could set up a potential Euro 2024 final with Spain. A real mouthwatering prospect.

If England finish second in the group, that could spell Germany in the round of 16, Spain in the quarter-finals, Netherlands in the semis and France in the final.
