Greene King's 'Brewing Ambitions' Report Launched in Parliament
Greene King has launched its ‘Brewing Ambitions – The Role of Pubs in Breaking Down Barriers to Opportunity’ report in the Houses of Parliament to demonstrate the ongoing work to champion careers for all in hospitality.
The event was attended by MPs, representatives from organisations who help Greene King deliver the career training and support, and industry groups on Tuesday 29 October. There were Greene King apprentices, supported interns and team members who have joined through the Releasing Potential programme on hand on discuss their own experiences of learning through the company’s skills initiatives. It showcased the important role pubs play in supporting people into work and enabling them to have rewarding careers in the hospitality industry.
The report sets out how people can build their careers with Greene King though apprenticeships and supported internships, and how the Releasing Potential programme is helping to provide employment opportunities for former prisoners.
Greene King has:
- Supported over 17,800 apprenticeships to date, with still more starting today and have had an apprentice working in 97% of our pubs.
- Through the supported internship programme, there are opportunities for learners with special educational needs, offering invaluable experience in the workplace. 84% of those that have completed their internship have gone on to secure a job after the course.
- Committed to hiring 400 prison leavers by the end of 2025.
Greene King chief executive Nick Mackenzie and Lord Timpson, Minister for Prisons, Probation and Reducing Reoffending, spoke to guests at the event.
The Brewing Ambitions report is a further development of the company’s Stepping Up report from 2019 and Untapping Potential report from 2022 and shows the company’s ongoing commitment to skills and training so people from all walks of life can build a career with Greene King.
