Brits divided into ‘Mad fer its’ and ‘Meh for its’ this Summer

• Flaming Grill pubs create ‘Oasis-free zones’ in the cities with the highest levels of Gallagher-fatigue
• Pub goers can order a pint and a Gallagher hairdo in towns with diehard ‘madferits’
• 135 pubs become battlegrounds – and bonding grounds – for mates split over Oasis mania

The upcoming Oasis tour continues to divide the nation as 44% of Brits claim to be Oasis mad and one in five are already sick of hearing about the band.

Unsurprisingly, leading the ‘madferit’ camp is their hometown of Manchester with 48% of residents claiming to be diehard fans, alongside London (also 48%).

One in 10 Brits (12%) even say Liam Gallagher would make a great prime minister and 15% believe Wonderwall should be the national anthem, according to a recent poll from Flaming Grill.

Now, thanks to Flaming Grill, pubgoers in Manchester and London can order a beer and a barnet, just like their heroes, as barbers will be ready to give Gallagher-inspired haircuts at the bar.

As well as playing all the iconic tunes, the ‘madferit’ zones include free bucket hats, Britpop décor and prizes for those who show Oasis swagger as they walk to the bar.
Meanwhile, Flaming Grill will also be on hand to offer solace to the 47% of Brits who find Oasis ‘irritating’ by rolling out ‘mehforit’ zones at selected venues Plymouth and Newcastle. The research found that nearly one in 10 (8%) of Brits would actually rather the Cheeky Girls reunite than Oasis, and 68% of fans would rather see the Backstreet Boys back together than the Burnage Boys of Liam and Noel. Plus, nearly a third of Brits (32%) say they’d rather be bald than get an Oasis-style haircut.
These zones will have a different set of house rules; customers will be barred from singing Wonderwall, look-alikes will be exiled to the carpark by ‘Liam detectors’ - trained to measure sideburn length and scan for concealed tambourines - and Oasis noise cancelling headphones will be available so a pint can be enjoyed in champagne super silence.
Limited edition cocktails across both camps will also be on offer - Definitely May-Tea and Don’t Look Back in Jam-ger - serving up a taste of nostalgia, or sweet relief, depending on your Gallagher tolerance.

William Botterill, Head of Marketing at Greene King, said: “Love them or loathe them, everyone has a view on Oasis, and we wanted to get involved with our customers’ debates in our pubs this summer. We’re not just serving pints to a nation at musical odds this July – we're giving locals a pub that matches their views - whether they want to embrace or escape Oasis’ tour season this summer. Whichever camp you’re in, our events will make the perfect battleground, or bonding ground, for mates across Summer."

  • The Royal Sovereign in Salford on 27th June, from 6pm (Mad fer it)
  • The Torch in Wembley on 27th June from 8pm, and 25th July, from 2pm TBC (Mad fer it)

As for the remaining Flaming Grill pubs, 135 venues across the UK will be hosting their very own ‘madferit’ or ‘mehforit’ events this summer. Alongside themed drinks and decor, customers who choose a side will receive a ‘Mad Fer’ or ‘Meh For’ badge – plus a chance to win a custom t-shirt repping their team. Pub goers can expect tribute bands, non-stop Oasis tunes, strictly no-Oasis quizzes, and more over the summer.
