GREAT BRITAIN’S NUMBER ONE PREMIUM ALE
Old Speckled Hen is popular with ale drinkers up and down the country and renowned for its unique character and consistent quality.
The great British ale was first brewed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the MG car factory in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. It was even named after the factory’s old run around car which was often parked outside the paint shop. Spattered in paint, the car became known as the “Owld Speckl’d Un”. The eagle-eyed might even see the resemblance between MG’s logo and the Old Speckled Hen label!
More than 35 years on, the great premium ale continues to be a finely balanced beer with a distinctive rich, malty taste and fruity aroma.
THE BREWERY HAS THREE MORE HENS IN THE COOP
The three other core beers in the hen coop are Old Golden Hen, Old Hoppy Hen and Old Crafty Hen.
Old Golden Hen is an award-winning light golden beer. It was recently awarded Silver at the 2014 International Beer Challenge. With a special hop from Tasmania, it has a tropical fruit note in the taste and is more refreshing than the standard Old Speckled Hen ale.
Old Hoppy Hen is brewed for a light richness, skilfully bringing the sensitive aromas of hops to the fore. Our Master Brewer has brought together four varieties of premium hops and matched them with carefully selected malts to craft a delightfully bitter pale ale bursting with tropical flavour and aroma – most notably a hint of cool fresh grapefruit citrus thanks to the American Chinook hop.
The Old Crafty Hen is blended with the famous 5X for a rich fruity finish. It has greater complexity, but it is still rather refreshing. This superior ale is great on nights with a bit of a nip in the air!
