Our response to the crisis in Ukraine

It has been devastating to watch the tragic events in Ukraine unfold and we are deeply concerned for everyone in the region. Like many businesses, we are committed to doing what we can to help the Ukrainian people, whose livelihoods have been destroyed.

We have focused on what Greene King can offer by way of practical and meaningful support – both on a company-wide level and also in communities with our pubs:

  • We are proud that many of our pubs were quick off the mark by setting themselves up as hubs for communities to donate items that could then be transferred through recognised charities directly to Ukraine as soon as possible. This continues to gather pace with our teams sharing what they’re doing on social media.
  • As a business, we are donating an initial £50,000 to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), which provides important support to the people of Ukraine, including food, first aid, clean water, medicines, and warm clothing. The DEC is made up of 15 member charities, including Action Aid, British Red Cross and Save the Children, and are experts in humanitarian aid. However, we also know that many of our teams are keen to donate what they can and so we have also committed to match-funding a further £50,000 of support to the DEC. Our teams, and members of the public, can donate through this link.
  • In order to support the people who have been left no choice but to flee their homes, we’re looking at whether we can offer employment opportunities to Ukrainian refugees when they come to the UK. We are in contact with the government and charities about this and stand ready to help.

On more direct action, we have looked in detail at what we can do. We made the decision to immediately stop exporting our beer to Russia at the start of the war. In addition, we do not buy any product directly from Russia.
