It’s one of the things that makes us so unique and such a fun place to work.
You might be looking for a full-on professional career, quick progression and intensive development. Or perhaps you need a casual, part-time role to support you while you study, to allow you to pick up the kids from school or to give you the chance to pursue your real dreams. Or maybe you’re somewhere in between. In our business, diversity isn’t just something we celebrate, it’s something we need.
When you walk through the doors at Greene King, you walk into a world of opportunities. Our promise is to help you build the career you want and bring out the best version of yourself. And hey, if you can help us create the leading pub company in the UK, there’s no telling where your career with Greene King could take you.
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
The better you are, the better we are. That’s why everyone at Greene King is encouraged to take part in training. Whatever job you do, in whichever part of the business, we’ll give you the opportunity to develop and progress your career.
We design our training courses to make the most of your talents and bring out the best in you. Our training is about more than workshops and classroom courses. It also includes practical, hands-on experience as well as digital content for you to connect to when it suits you best. While sometimes it will be intense, we’ll be supporting you every step of the way.
Many of our training programmes also lead to nationally recognised qualifications. From our apprenticeships to our management development programme, our courses will give you the technical and personal skills you need in your role and reward you for taking on the challenge.
OUR AWARD-WINNING APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME
Whether you’re looking for your first job in hospitality or are already working in the sector, our Apprenticeship Programme will help you to reach your full potential. An apprenticeship at Greene King is a work-based programme lasting a minimum of 12 months. It’s a great way to get hands-on experience while achieving a nationally recognised qualification.
Our programme can open doors in Front of House and Kitchen roles, all the way up to supervisory and management levels. We offer 10 different apprenticeships that cover a range of hospitality services – from food and beverage service (level 2) and professional cookery (level 3) right through to leadership and management (level 4).
We’re really proud of our apprenticeship programme and we feel honoured to be recognised by the awards we’ve received, including: Top 100 National Apprenticeship Employer 2015 by the National Apprenticeship Service, VQ Macro Employer of the Year 2016, Top 50 Apprenticeship Employer 2015 (Daily Telegraph), National Apprenticeship Service (East of England) Regional Winner 2015
OUR GRADUATE PROGRAMME: BECOME A HIGH FLYER IN HOSPITALITY
Each September our graduates embark on the intensive programme, which we believe is the perfect start for future high flyers in hospitality.
Over the course of just 12 months, you’ll have the rare opportunity to soar through different departments, work on a real variety of exciting projects and very quickly learn about the organisation as a whole.
Your on-the-job training will consist of a mix of head office roles and positions in our pubs, restaurants and hotels where you’ll really learn how our business operates. In addition, you’ll be expected to join formal training courses that will cement your learning and development even further.
Feature: Isabelle Pearson
Isabelle Pearson joined Greene King aged 18, part-time, working behind the bar. Within a week she knew she wanted to run a pub. Just three years later, Isabelle is the house manager at the Ship in Bedford.
We asked Isabelle about her experience and here’s what she said:
"I thought it would be a stop gap, but very quickly realised that I wanted to run my own pub. I felt that taking an apprenticeship would help me achieve that goal."
"I was pretty proud of the achievement! My apprenticeship has given me more confidence and I have learnt valuable skills to do my job. It has changed my life."
"I believe that the team is the most important aspect and the people are the key reason for the growth of the business."
