Simon Brearley, national account manager for Brewing & Brands, tells us how it felt reaching Paris
We made it!
Everyone was far more relaxed today as we only had a 'mere' 60 miles to cover to the French capital with about 250 miles done.
We left Compiegne and cycled through the forest in hot bright sunshine up and up a super climb to a Chateau. We had more time, so took time off the bike for coffee and food in a picturesque village.
After hitting the Paris suburbs and some particularly crazy driving we regrouped at Parc Monceau, before being escorted en masse to the Arc de Triomphe and down the Champs Elysees, over the Seine and past the Eiffel Tower. This was truly amazing and an unforgettable experience with cars beeping, people in cafes cheering and the whole team were in fine form.
We took the obligatory pictures by the Eiffel Tower before dropping off the bikes and rehydrating with some cold cold beer. After about 320 miles covered since Wednesday we are all exhausted but jubilant.
Personally, it was an emotional day as it coincided with my Dad's birthday for the first time since he sadly passed away from cancer in January. The fact that we were all raising money for such a worthy cause in relation to this was quite something.
All in all, a fantastic end to an amazing but challenging week. Tomorrow we cheat and get the Eurostar home.
