LONDON TO PARIS CYCLE RIDE FOR MACMILLAN DAY ONE

Having arrived at Euston station at 4pm we cycled 12 miles across London in rush hour to our hotel - first time cycling with a huge rucksack was a learning experience.

First night at the hotel was a great opportunity to meet our fellow participants and it's clear that everyone has a reason for participating.

For me I'm taking part because like most of my fellow riders I've lost loved ones to cancer and understand the importance the care Macmillan provide.

The next morning we set off early in baking heat through some stunning scenery in the Kent countryside. As we reached Dover, the seagulls announced our arrival and after a much needed rest we took the ferry to Calais which was smooth I slept for most of the journey.

Once on French soil there was a noticeable improvement in quality of road surface and all in we cycled 84 miles in England and a gentle 3 miles in France.

For me the biggest challenge was the heat although some of the hills ran a close second

Now time for beauty sleep!
