History

Loch Fyne Restaurants began life as a small oyster shack on the banks of Loch Fyne on the main West Highland route in Scotland. Serving oysters and mussels fresh from the loch, the shack soon turned into a hugely popular destination and so began the move south of the border.

There are now 42 Loch Fyne restaurants across the UK, as well as the original Oyster Bar that has developed to include a highly successful shop and is now a major tourist attraction in its own right.

The Food

Today, much of the produce served in the restaurants still comes directly from the loch and from the traditional smokehouse located at the head of Loch Fyne. Oysters, mussels, langoustine and scallops thrive in the pure, clear waters and are prized around the world for their freshness and flavour.

White fish is mainly from British coastal waters and Loch Fyne's pioneering policy on sustainability means that only small day fishing boats are used – their fishing methods mean the marine environment remains healthy. None of the fish in the restaurants have been caught using destructive deep sea trawlers.

Philosophy

Our philosophy is summed up by the Gaelic saying Nach Urramach an Cuan, which means 'How worthy of honour is the sea'. This translates into a business that is run with respect for animals, people and ecology and a commitment to independent producers using sustainable methods to produce high-quality foods.
