Greene King was founded in 1799 in Bury St. Edmunds, in Suffolk, and is now the country’s leading integrated pub retailer and brewer. We own or operate around 1,900 pubs, restaurants and hotels, including popular national brands such as Hungry Horse, Old English Inns and Loch Fyne Seafood and Grill. We are also the UK’s leading cask ale brewer with brands such as Greene King IPA and Old Speckled Hen.
We employ 23,000 people across the UK, around half of which are under the age of 25.
Greene King is made up of three main businesses: Retail, Pub Partners and Brewing & Brands.
Our Retail business comprises the pubs, restaurants and hotels that we manage in England, Scotland and Wales. There are currently around 1,000 sites in the estate, split equally between our Local Pubs Division and our Destination Pubs Division. Our primary sales categories are food, drink and accommodation. Food, the fastest growing category in Retail, now comprises 41% of Retail sales.

Our Pub Partners business offers people the opportunity to run our pubs in England, Scotland and Wales on a tenanted, leased or franchised basis. There are currently around 900 sites in the estate, of which around two-thirds are run under traditional, brewery-tied tenancy agreements.

Brewing & Brands
Greene King Brewing & Brands operates two breweries, in Bury St Edmunds and in Dunbar. We are the leading brewer of cask ale in the UK with an iconic ale brand portfolio, including Greene King IPA, Old Speckled Hen, Abbot Ale and Scotland's leading ale brand, Belhaven Best. The launch of our St Edmund Brewhouse in 2013 has enhanced our portfolio of craft ales.
